Conductor

Conductor is an audio wayfinding application for the Auckland rail system that makes navigation accessible to all users including the visually and audibly impaired. It triggers location based sounds that guide users intuitively.

As well as assisting those with visual and audio impairments, Conductor can help distracted commuters navigate safely and efficiently. Relying on sound rather than language, the app can also assist overseas visitors and new users regardless of their background.

While on board the train, Conductor displays a simple countdown screen that helps users know when they have reached their destination. Visual information can also be supplemented with voiceovers for those with visual impairments.

Conductor uses binaural sound recordings that retain the spatial cues of distance and direction when played back through stereo headphones. It uses these sounds to create a virtual soundscape that users can navigate intuitively.
